FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS — STAIRLIFTS & WHEELCHAIR RAMPS IN NORTHERN NJ

Q: What is a stairlift and how does it work?

A: A stairlift is a motorized chair that travels along a rail mounted directly to your staircase — not the wall. The user sits in the chair, secures the seatbelt, and uses a simple joystick or remote control to glide smoothly up or down the stairs. Stairlifts are battery powered, which means they continue to work even during a power outage.

Q: What is the difference between a straight stairlift and a curved stairlift?

A: A straight stairlift is designed for staircases that go directly from one floor to another without any turns or landings. A curved stairlift is custom built to fit staircases that have bends, curves, intermediate landings, or spiral sections. Curved stairlifts take longer to manufacture and are priced higher as a result. During your free in-home evaluation we will assess your staircase and recommend the right solution.

Q: How long does it take to install a stairlift?

A: Most straight stairlift installations are completed in just a few hours once started. Curved stairlifts require custom manufacturing and typically take a few weeks from order to installation. We understand that many of our customers have urgent needs following a hospitalization or rehab discharge, and we work as quickly as possible to accommodate those situations.

Q: Will a stairlift damage my staircase?

A: No. Stairlift rails are mounted to the treads of the staircase itself, not the walls. When a stairlift is removed, only small screw holes remain which are easily repaired. The staircase structure is not affected.

Q: Can other family members still use the stairs with a stairlift installed?

A: Yes. Stairlifts are designed to fold up compactly against the wall when not in use, leaving plenty of room for other household members to walk up and down the stairs comfortably.

Q: Do you install outdoor stairlifts?

A: Yes. We install outdoor stairlifts for customers who need assistance with exterior steps leading to a front door, back entrance, or garage. Outdoor models are specifically built to withstand New Jersey weather conditions. Both straight and curved stairlifts available for outdoor installation.

FAQ: WHEELCHAIR RAMPS

Q: What types of wheelchair ramps do you install?

A: We install modular aluminum ramp systems that can be configured to fit virtually any home entrance. These ramps are safe, durable, ADA compliant, and can be installed quickly — often within days of your initial evaluation. We offer both purchase and rental options.

Q: Can I rent a wheelchair ramp instead of buying one?

A: Absolutely. Ramp rental is one of our most popular options, particularly for patients recovering from surgery or a short term medical event who need temporary accessibility. Rental ramps can typically be installed very quickly, making them ideal for discharge planning situations. Ask us about our current rental pricing and availability.

Q: How long does it take to install a wheelchair ramp?

A: Most modular ramp installations are completed in a single visit. Because these ramps are pre-engineered and modular, they go together quickly and efficiently. We understand that discharge timelines can be tight and we work hard to meet your schedule.

Q: Do I need a permit for a wheelchair ramp in New Jersey?

A: Permit requirements vary by municipality throughout New Jersey. Some towns require a permit for permanent ramp installations while others do not. During your free in-home evaluation we will help you understand what may be required in your specific town. Modular ramps that are not permanently attached are generally less likely to require permits.

Q: What is the weight capacity of your ramps and stairlifts?

A: Our stairlifts and ramp systems are available in a range of weight capacities to accommodate virtually all users. We will discuss your specific needs during your free in-home evaluation and recommend the appropriate equipment.

FAQ: INSURANCE & INVESTMENT

Q: How much does a stairlift cost in New Jersey?

A: Stairlift pricing varies based on the type of staircase, the model selected, and any custom features required. Straight stairlifts are generally more affordable than curved stairlifts. We provide transparent, no-pressure quotes during your free in-home evaluation. We also offer rental options for those who prefer a lower upfront cost.

Q: Does Medicare cover stairlifts or wheelchair ramps?

A: Original Medicare Part A and Part B generally do not cover stairlifts or wheelchair ramps as they are classified as home modifications rather than durable medical equipment. However, some Medicare Advantage plans, Medicaid waiver programs, Veterans Affairs benefits, and long term care insurance policies may provide partial or full coverage. We encourage you to check with your specific plan and we are happy to provide documentation to support any coverage requests.

Q: Are there financial assistance programs available in New Jersey?

A: Yes. New Jersey offers several programs that may help offset the cost of home modifications for older adults and individuals with disabilities. These include the NJ Department of Human Services programs, county-based aging services, and Veterans benefits for eligible individuals. Our team can point you in the right direction during your evaluation.
