SHOULD I CHOOSE A POWER SWIVEL SEAT OPTION FOR MY NEW STAIRLIFT?
We get this question a lot. In a perfect world ALL stairlifts (straight or curved) would have this feature. But due to a cost increase, the manufactures have this as an option and all too often client's don't choose it in an attempt to save money.
The main safety benefit is that you can swivel the seat to face the upper landing before you get close to the stairs. Same for getting off, you can put it back to the riding position while remaining safely away from the edge of the stairs. This is especially needed when the user has some balance issues and/or is unsteady on their feet. Think of it like an ounce of prevention.
However, we only recommend this option when the seat can also swivel while using the manufacturer's remote controls. If it only swivels from the arm-controller we advise against it as this defeats the primary reason for it.
