The Battle That Won Our Independence Happened At Yorktown!

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, it’s worth remembering the battle that made it possible: Yorktown.
In the fall of 1781, General George Washington and French forces under General Rochambeau marched over 400 miles to trap British General Lord Cornwallis and his army at Yorktown, Virginia. The French navy, led by Admiral de Grasse, blocked the Chesapeake Bay, cutting off any hope of British escape or reinforcement by sea.
For nearly three weeks, American and French forces laid siege to the British position. On October 19, 1781, Cornwallis surrendered his entire army. It was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War, and it convinced the British Parliament that the war could not be won. Two years later, the Treaty of Paris made it official: the United States was a free and independent nation.
That victory at Yorktown is why we get to celebrate today. It’s why families across New Jersey and this whole country get to build their lives, raise their kids, and grow old in homes of their own choosing.
At Jersey Stairlifts And Ramps, we help people do exactly that: stay safe, stay independent, and stay home. This Independence Day, we’re proud to be part of a nation built on that same idea.
Happy 250th, America!
Safety. Independence. Home.
